Why Wedmore?

Vey Straker, performing The Magnetic Diaries, explains

What did you know of Wedmore before getting involved with our Arts Festival?   To be honest, we had never heard of Wedmore. But we are very glad we know about it now!

What do you prefer - Somerset Cider or Cheddar Cheese? Tricky one - but if I had to choose I’d go for the Cheddar as we could always provide the cider from our home counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Which of our many Somerset tourist attractions is your favourite? I remember feeling like I had visited another world; a magical, mysterious one, when I visited Wookey Hole caves as a child.

And which in the rest of the world? I loved exploring the Franz Josef glacier in New Zealand as an adult. Walking through the crevasses, I had that same sense of having been transported to another planet.

Who do you most admire in the field of drama and/or poetry? Robert le Page, the Canadian theatre phenomenon. He has such courage in drawing on his own experiences, including his vulnerabilities, and then scaling them up through visual trickery, to make a lasting impression on his audience.

After Wedmore, what’s your next project? I am working on Reaction Theatre Makers' latest production Honey, which we are planning to tour in Spring 2018. It is an ensemble piece, set in the Welsh mountains; a lyrical, beautifully presented tale of community and all communities that are breaking down, but with an unexpected hopeful message at its core.
