KATE ADIE CBE

Our foreign correspondent

Wednesday 15th May, midday, DUE TO HUGE TICKET SALES THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO WEDMORE HALL.

Kate Adie CBE was one of the first British women to send despatches from danger zones around the world: both Gulf Wars, four years of war in the Balkans and the final NATO intervention in Kosovo, the Rwandan Genocide and the British military intervention in the Sierra Leone Civil War. In fact there is a well-known cartoon, based on a soldier’s comment: ‘We can’t start the war yet; Kate Adie hasn’t arrived.’

Kate also covered the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster at Zeebrugge, the massacre at Dunblane, the SAS lifting of the Iran Embassy Siege in London, and the Tiananmen Square protest in Beijing, as well as numerous assignments in Northern Ireland throughout ‘The Troubles’.

She now presents Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent and has written a number of best-selling books.
