Don Boyd - Wednesday 16 May 12 noon, The Swan Hotel Clubroom

Don Boyd

Adaptation - A lunchtime talk on film direction

Before he was 30, Don directed more than 40 commercials and two feature films - Intimate Reflections and East of Elephant Rock which starred John Hurt. He went on to produce films such as Alan Clarke's Scum, Derek Jarman’s The Tempest, Lindsay Anderson's Look Back In Anger and the opera film Aria

After producing War Requiem, starring Laurence Olivier, he returned to directing with Goldeneye starring Charles Dance, and many others. Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter, he also lectures widely.

His novel Margot’s Secrets is soon to be a TV series. Novels, pulp fiction, short stories - all provide material for screen adaptations. Don will talk about the challenges of that process, referencing his own work which has included adapting Shakespeare, John Osborne and Ibsen, as well as novels by Beryl Bainbridge and PD James.
